IBCCP Chapter 4

The Mist Forest (Part 1)

Tang Mian’s analysis was lightning-fast. He hardly paused to think; after just a glance at the Battle Angel’s card log, he wrote a long, flowing string of text.

Demon King: “Very good. You made some excellent points.”

Hearing the Demon King’s praise, Tang Mian proudly lifted his head, reached out to elegantly brush a strand of hair from his forehead, and said to the system, “Where’s the applause?”

System: 【………. 】

Ever since Tang Mian’s first card log received an exceptionally enthusiastic response, the System had fallen into a silence born of self-doubt.

Demon King: “But is that bird-man’s model really as good as you say? He hasn’t even shown his full face. Tsk, tsk. He might not be as handsome as me.”

Tang Mian: “Handsomeness is a feeling. Precisely because he hides his eyes with his ear feathers, it leaves room for the imagination. While you are very handsome, you can’t cater to every player’s aesthetic, whereas his hidden eyes allow players to mentally fill in and idealize a more perfect full appearance.”

Demon King: “?” My head itches—it feels like I’m about to grow a brain.

Tang Mian: “Handsomeness also depends on clothing. The Greek-style attire complements his racial aura perfectly. The draped fabric accentuates his excellent physique and poise, while the golden accessories serve as the perfect finishing touch, adding a sense of sacredness and exotic charm.”

“Both are handsome—one is effortlessly handsome, while the other is meticulously dressed, clearly putting thought into it for you. Which do you think players would prefer?”

The Demon King was already speechless.

As a fire demon, the Demon King’s only requirement when buying clothes is that they won’t get burned—he’s never given a second thought to all that other nonsense.

Demon King: “Damn it. So what do you think I need to do to make my card log totally crush that bird guy?”

Tang Mian suddenly asked, “How’s your physique?”

Demon King: “?”

The Demon King cleared his throat. “I’ve got eight-pack abs. I’ve built up some serious muscle. What’s up? You wanna see?”

In theory, the Demon King doesn’t like posting photos like this online, but the N card had already sent him a photo showing off his slim waist and perky butt…

Ahem.

Tang Mian said happily, “Then that’s easy! You can do some edge-walking!”

Demon King: “?” What does that mean?

Tang Mian said earnestly, “If the Battle Angel posts a picture of himself reading late at night, you should post a photo of yourself drinking late at night—but make sure to capture the alcohol spilling onto your abs. Dim lighting will really highlight how handsome your eight-pack looks.”

Demon King:”??”

Tang Mian continued with an example: “If the Battle Angel posts a photo of himself playing the pipe organ in a church, you should post a photo of your pecs crashing forward like a tidal wave, using your broad chest to embrace and shelter the souls that music cannot heal.”

Demon King:“???”

Tang Mian summed it up: “No matter what artsy content the other person posts, you can dismantle it with the simplest, most blunt, and most direct edge-walking humor that strikes deep into the player’s soul!”

Demon King: “???????”

Seeing the string of question marks the Demon King typed, Tang Mian patiently explained, “Don’t underestimate the power of edge-walking humor. For example, right now—as a player—would you rather chat with me about your life goals, or would you rather see my legs?”

Demon King:“Take a look?”

【You recalled a message】

Demon King: “Damn. That’s not what I meant. Damn it! Anyway, my abs and pecs are only for my future wife to see!”

Tang Mian suddenly realized.

It seems the Demon King is the type of conservative romance card who won’t show off his assets until he’s officially in a relationship with a player.

Tang Mian snapped her fingers and readily agreed, “In that case, let’s switch tracks. This approach might not be as quick as edge-walking, but the people who fall for this will really fall hard.”

Demon King:“What?”

Tang Mian: “It’s a bit complicated to explain—why don’t you just give me a chance to put it into practice?”

From the pile of card logs the Demon King had forwarded to him, Tang Mian precisely picked out two:

Both of these card logs were from the dungeon 【Mist Forest】

Battle Angel: “Your heart is like a melancholy forest shrouded in thick mist. *【Image】”

Photo: A silhouette of the Battle Angel in the mist, filled with the beauty of negative space.

Meanwhile, the art style of the Demon King’s card log is straightforward and brutal: “Forget hide-and-seek—I’m just going to burn the whole thing to the ground.”

It doesn’t even have an accompanying image. It was posted very half-heartedly.

Tang Mian: “As far as I know, dungeon-based card logs get one chance to be re-edited.”

This was a rule he learned by asking the system while researching card logs.

Tang Mian: “I know your time is precious, so all I need is for you to enable co-creation mode with me. I’ll enter the dungeon, capture your heroic moments, and rewrite the card log for you. You’ll decide whether to upload the revised version. Does that work for you?”

Before the Demon King could reply to Tang Mian, the system suddenly spoke up: 【Do you know how difficult a C-rank dungeon is?】

Tang Mian: “No, I don’t.”

System, coldly: 【You’ll die a horrible death.】

Tang Mian said, touched: “Are you looking out for me, System? I love you too.”

System: 【 …….. 】Just go die.

A blood-red card appeared out of thin air in Tang Mian’s card space.

Tang Mian instinctively took two steps back, his green eyes widening as he stared at the giant playing card standing over two meters tall in front of him. The card had a red background with black borders, and in the center was a black silhouette of a demon.

The demon sat upon a throne, his feet resting on countless skulls, as he played with flames in both hands.

The card resembled a door formed from congealed blood, exuding a terrifying and ominous aura.

【 Do you accept the Demon King’s invitation to co-create?】 Tang Mian walked up to the door and lightly touched it with his fingertip.

【Yes】

Ripples spread out in all directions.

【Dungeon Name】:Mist Forest

【Dungeon Level】:C

【Dungeon Objective】:

1. Survive until the monsters are defeated

2. Defeat the Mist Monsters

3. Ensure the survival of the main story characters

4. Protect the forest—it’s everyone’s responsibility. Keep the battle confined to the monsters’ activity area

【Dungeon Introduction】:Legend has it that many years ago, angels descended upon the mist forest, sealing away the terrifying Mist Monsters and bringing the people a long period of peace.

A very, very long time later.

So long that the people here were on the verge of forgetting the origin of the mist forest’s name, the forest was once again shrouded in mist… 】

As the system’s cold voice finished its introduction, a deep crimson light instantly engulfed Tang Mian.

【The following Identity Cards can be drawn in this dungeon:

【R card: Hunter,

N card: Villager】

【This instance will randomly assign you a role card based on your card level… Drawing your role card…】

【Tang Mian, your Role Card: N card · Villager】

【You are a villager living in the mist forest. You know this area well, but today, you’ve gotten lost in the mist forest.】

Tang Mian opened his eyes.

The sky was gray and overcast, with trees in every direction. A chilling aura seeped through the thin mist, creeping into Tang Mian’s body—so cold that he hugged himself. He was still wearing those coarse hemp clothes.

“Huh? Am I really just a villager?” Tang Mian asked the System through his inner voice.

System: 【You’re just a Level 0 N card. Did you really think you’d be matched with any other identity card?】

Tang Mian replied earnestly: 【I thought I was the village heartthrob.】

“Rustle.”

A faint, almost imperceptible sound of footsteps drifted from behind him. The sound was so light it could be ignored, yet it exploded like a thunderclap in Tang Mian’s ears.

Tang Mian spun around abruptly. Less than half a meter away.

A face emerged through the thick fog, appearing right before Tang Mian, along with a knife glinting coldly. Tang Mian turned pale and ran off without looking back.

“It’s me! Karl!” A frantic shout rang out from behind him.

【Current San Value: 90/100 (Note: San is a value specific to this dungeon; its level affects the course of the dungeon, so please keep a close eye on the San value)】

【R card: The Hunter has a story interaction with you】

Upon hearing the system’s alert sound, Tang Mian’s legs gave way as he tried to run. Just before he collapsed to the ground, a warm, firm hand gripped his wrist tightly.

Karl yanked Tang Mian to his feet.

Through the mist, the first thing he saw was a pair of moist green eyes, with a faint flush of red at the eyelids. That sickly red spread from around his eyes to his cheeks, the tip of his nose, and his unnaturally red lips.

Those beautifully shaped lips parted and closed: “You scared the life out of me.” ”

The soft, drawn-out tone transformed what should have been a complaint into something as gentle as a whine.

Karl froze.

For a split second, he thought the person before him was an elf or a succubus.

Did Tang Mian used to look like this?

He couldn’t believe he’d never really noticed such a beauty in the village before.

In the dark deck.

In the Purgatory Office on the eighth underground level, magma flowed slowly outside the glass walls, bathing the entire room in a dark red glow.

The Flame Demon held a wine glass; though it was filled to the brim, the wine no longer released sulfur bubbles, yet the Demon King—who prided himself on the wine’s flavor—stared intently at the large screen, completely oblivious.

【Damn. Baby, do you really look like this…?】
