TAMTV Chapter 14

Zhou-ger's Life Experience

After eating and drinking tea at the tea stall and resting for a while, Wu Qingyuan and Lin Amo walked to the village after the sun outside had set.

Because they were carrying things in their hands, the two of them were not able to travel quickly, and when they returned to the village, the villagers who worked in the fields had begun to head home one after another.

Lin Tianbao and Zhang Dazhu were waiting for them under the shade of the big willow tree at the entrance of the village.

“Brother, you’re finally back. Brother Dazhu here has been dying of anxiety and dragged me here for the afternoon, but the heat was killing me!”

As soon as they met, Lin Tianbao ran up to him and grieved for comfort. Since he grew up without a mother, he liked being babied by his older brother.

“Did Brother Dazhu pull you along, or did you come by yourself? Don’t act so coy around people–here, Su Xiangyuan’s fragrant shortbread, eat it quickly, go back home and make sure grandmother won’t see, or else, you won’t have a share in dinner.”

Lin Amo has long been accustomed to his brother acting like this towards him; he knocked on Lin Tianbao’s head and taught him a lesson, and then took out the cake that Zhao Haisheng had given him in the town before and handed it over as he instructed him to.

Although his younger brother was the only male of the family’s grandchildren, his grandmother only loved his third uncle, the youngest son, and a cake was not enough to take it back to the family, so he naturally had to leave it for his brother.

Lin Tianbao was small but also wise, nodded in understanding, but he was still not willing to eat on the spot, especially after smelling that delicious scent– Su Xiangyuan’s shortbread was rarer than candied haws, so he smiled and wrapped the cake up and put it into the innermost part of his clothes to hide, before laughing.

“I knew brother still loves me the most. Brother Dazhu was really anxious- today he ran back to the village after half a day of work; let’s go back to Zhou-ger and boil his medicine…”

“Lin-ger, has the medicine been bought?” Zhang Dazhu, beside him, also asked anxiously.

“We have it, Brother Dazhu. You can rest assured, Zhou-ger is gonna be fine. Let him live in my house for these two days, and I will help you take care of him!”

Knowing Zhang Dazhu’s feelings for Zhou-ger, Lin Amo hurriedly shook the medicine bag in his hand to comfort him.

“Okay, give the medicine to me, and I will go back to boil the medicine first, and you could slowly walk back…”

But Zhang Dazhu was more anxious than he thought, and he directly reached out to take the medicine bag from Lin Amo and turned to run because he was too anxious; his actions were panicked and rude, and he almost fell.

This frizzy look made Lin Amo and his brother laugh, especially Lin Tianbao, who shouted and quipped, “Brother Dazhu, be careful, Zhou-ger is fine, and he can’t run! Hahaha”

Wu Qingyuan was not clear about the affairs of the various families in the village, but he was also infected by the atmosphere of several people getting along and laughing.

Perhaps this Liushu village was really a good place to settle. The Lin family’s father and sons he has met so far, as well as Zhang Dazhu he just saw, and several gossip aunts he met on the road before, the simple atmosphere of everyone has made him particularly comfortable and relaxed; he has not been so relaxed for a long time.

However, he still had some doubts: since Zhang Dazhu valued Zhou-ger so much, why didn’t he marry him earlier?

Except for rarities such as Lin Amo, people here basically got married and had children at the age of fifteen or sixteen. Before, he saw that although Zhou-ger was thin, his age was also seventeen or eighteen; Zhang Dazhu looked like he was twenty-three or four, and he was the oldest man left in the village, unmarried.

And since he was so anxious to buy medicine, why didn’t this man go himself, but instead he gave the silver to others for them to do the work? His stronger legs would’ve been faster than Lin Amo’s ger ones.

Although these things were none of his business, everyone has curiosity within them; Wu Qingyuan was a little confused.

He didn’t know anyone else, so he could only ask Lin Amo to satisfy his curiosity. After all, he had decided to live here in the future, and gossiping about the affairs in the village was preparation for a harmonious neighborhood life in the future!

The matter between Zhang Dazhu and Zhou-ger was not a secret in the village, so when Wu Qingyuan inquired, Lin Amo did not hide it, telling him as they walked.

In fact, it was not an earth-shattering thing, just a young couple who were in love with their childhood sweethearts, but their parents did not agree.

The Zhou family disliked the betrothal gift given by the Zhang family and refused to agree to the marriage. The parents of the Zhang family felt that a ger of the Zhou family should not cost ten taels of silver for the betrothal gift alone. Zhang Dazhu was not the only son in the family; there were also several others. The marriage couldn’t be arranged as neither party could come to an agreement.

But Zhang Dazhu’s iron heart was determined to marry Zhou-ger. If the family could not take out the silver for the marriage, he would earn it himself. The other matchmakers who came to the door to arrange marriage had all been driven out; he’d been delaying until this day, when he was already 24, and there was anger at his parents for not helping and helplessness as Zhou-ger continued to be abused.

And regarding the Zhou family, Zhou-ger looks good; old Zhou Laotai has been counting on him to exchange for a huge dowry, and since Zhang Dazhu couldn’t take out the silver taels, she would find someone else, the old bachelor in the village, the paralyzed old man, who was willing to give ten silver; she would marry the ger to–anyways she won’t feel distressed by it.

But although Zhou-ger was usually weak and obedient, this time he was also stubborn and ran to jump into the river to die, so Zhou Laotai temporarily stopped thinking of marrying him to someone else, and patiently waited for Zhang Dazhu to bring the silver to propose to him.

Ten taels were quite a lot of money. Everyone in the village could barely survive for a year. Zhang Dazhu’s parents were angry and unwilling to help. It’s not so easy to rely on Zhang Dazhu’s single legs, who could only work hard to save, so the marriage was delayed until now.

“Zhou Laotai is really too much. Zhou-ger has been a cow and horse for her family over the years, has been scolded and beaten, and it’s been him doing all the dirty and tiring work. But she forgets that and wants to marry Zhou-ger to those shameless old scumbags for money, and I don’t want to think that Zhou-ger is part of their family!”

Lin Amo said indignantly. Regardless of the fact that he and Zhou-ger were good friends, even the other people in the village said the same. There were many mean mothers-in-law in the village, but there were really few people like Grandpa Zhou Laotai who had no conscience.

Lin Tianbao also nodded next to him; the village was not so big that matters like this were unknown even to children.

“Zhou-ger also has an older brother?” Wu Qingyuan, who was listening to gossip, suddenly had a flash of knowledge in his mind.

“Well, it seems to be true. I don’t know the story all too well. Zhou-ger was very young at that time, and he just vaguely remembers a little bit. But I heard from the aunts in the village that Zhou-ger had fled with his brother and came to our Liushu Village at that time. In order to have something to eat, the refugees helped us work. Once, Grandpa Zhou encountered a bear while working on a mountain. Zhou-ger’s older brother fell off the cliff to save Grandpa Zhou and disappeared. They didn’t even find his body, and Grandpa Zhou adopted Zhou-ger…”

Lin Amo nodded, very upset for his only friend.

“When Grandpa Zhou was alive, she was still very good to Zhou-ger, but as soon as Grandpa Zhou died, Zhou Laotai stopped treating Zhou-ger as a person, and if Zhou-ger’s brother was still there, see who would dare bully Zhou-ger!”

Lin Amo said as he narrowed his eyes and made fierce expressions and movements.

However, because he was not very old, although his appearance was ugly, his facial features were actually clear, and the direction of his position was also clear; the ugly green spots were covered on the other side, only revealing a good side, and the expression of righteous indignation and the stare in his eyes were suddenly very cute, so that Wu Qingyuan, who was meditating, suddenly couldn’t help but want to laugh.

But this was not the time to laugh; he was more concerned about what Lin Amo had just said. Took a deep breath and opened his mouth to ask.

“Amo, you just said that Zhou-ger fled with his brother and came to your Liushu Village? How old is he now? And what was his brother’s name? Do you know?” He was an adopted orphan, and the famine time here could be matched; there was an older brother who had ‘died’. The identity of that was a ger; this Zhou-ger matched fifty percent of the information he was looking for, which was Zhou Fuxi. Wu Qingyuan intuitively had some small doubts.

“Brother Wu–you, you aren’t saying that Zhou-ger is the relative you’re looking for, right?!”

Lin Amo also reacted to his inquiry and stopped abruptly.

“I don’t know, but a lot of the information you just said could be matched because our overseas calendar years were different from yours here; the time of the famine before was not right, I may really have gotten the age wrong…”

Although Wu Qingyuan still had some doubts, he couldn’t be completely sure. In the end, it was only after verification that he would know that he had made up explanations.

His story was very coincidental and full of loopholes, but the two brothers of the Lin family did not suspect it. After all, it’s not as if Brother Wu had nothing to do with his life, so he would go on claiming relatives to deceive people, and it was not beneficial to recognize a poor relative.

On the contrary, if Zhou-ger was really the person Wu Qingyuan was looking for, then Zhou-ger would be out of the sea of suffering, Zhou-ger’s real relatives would still be there, someone would support him, and Zhou Laotai would no longer be able to do anything to Zhou-ger!

After analyzing the pros and cons of this matter, Wu Qingyuan did not need to lie at all.

“Right, right, definitely! It must be!”

Lin Amo excitedly grabbed Wu Qingyuan’s arm and nodded violently, and his bright eyes flashed with a remarkable light.

“That is, it must be Zhou-ger!”

Lin Tianbao, next to him, also jumped up with joy and excitement with his brother and had to say that the father and sons of the Lin family were really characters carved out of the same mold.

“Most of the information could be correct, but I want to confirm it more carefully. I hope you can help me…”

Wu Qingyuan nodded, and his eyes fell on Lin Amo’s hand, which grabbed his arm again; he felt the temperature of his arm and smiled slightly. He wasn’t in a hurry; after all, hot tofu mustn’t be eaten in a rush.
