【Welcome to the National Survival Game.】

When the voice rang out, Qiyu was lying on the ground with his hands folded across his stomach, in a very serene posture.

Just a moment ago, while searching for clean water, he had accidentally fallen into the nest of the Rift Monsters. His last memory was being overwhelmed by countless monsters.

He thought he must be dead.

In this broken world, life is nothing but suffering; death might actually be a relief.

He waited quietly for his consciousness to slip into slumber.

However, his consciousness did not sink into chaos as he had hoped; instead, it grew increasingly lucid, and his sense of his body gradually returned. Qiyu breathed in the crisp, cold air—ice-cold and clean, devoid of that putrid stench that clung to him like a bone-eating ulcer.

He sensed his limbs were intact, warm blood flowing through every vein and bone. The wounds and ailments that had plagued him for years had vanished without a trace!

【Welcome to the National Survival Game.】

The voice sounded again, this time a bit clearer. Qiyu snapped his eyes open!

Before he could assume any defensive posture, the calm, mechanical voice spoke again:

【Earth has been selected to participate in the Survival Game.】

【To all players: the wooden cabin you are in is your only refuge.】

【The tutorial period lasts three days. During this time, the shelter is completely safe. Once the tutorial period ends, the shelter may be attacked. Please make the most of your time and upgrade the wooden cabin as soon as possible.】

After uttering these words, the mechanical voice faded away.

Earth?

Is that the name of the planet?

Qiyu’s gaze quickly scanned the cabin before him.

The entire cabin was about twenty square meters in size, with square wooden walls and no windows. Only directly in front of him was a wooden door that didn’t look very sturdy.

To the left of the wooden door stood a rough wooden table—the only piece of furniture in the house.

On the far-from-smooth tabletop, something was glinting and glowing, utterly captivating. Qiyu didn’t rush over, but instead looked down at his left hand.

His arm was intact, a thin layer of muscle covering the bone. No fractures, no wounds.

He examined his body from head to toe with curiosity, confirming that none of this was an illusion. It was as if some divine power had snatched him from certain death and bestowed upon him a healthy, vibrant body.

Just then, the small object on the wooden table suddenly burst into a brilliant glow.

Qiyu walked over and saw clearly that it was a badge shaped like a light blue five-pointed star.

This time, he didn’t hesitate—an entity capable of bringing him back from the dead, and even regenerating severed limbs, surely had no reason to ambush him.

If it really intended to harm him, he could always die again. He thought calmly.

As his fingers touched the badge, the blue star melted like snowwater, dissolving into specks of light that merged into the palm of his hand, transforming into a pattern resembling a tattoo.

At the same moment, a voice echoed in his mind:

【Congratulations to player “My Fate is Determined By Me, Not The Heavens” for becoming the first registered player. Reward: Silver Chest x1】

Immediately followed by another voice:

【Congratulations to player “My Fate is Determined By Me, Not The Heavens” for achieving the first kill on the server. Reward: Silver Chest x1】

Qiyu:?

Although he wasn’t quite sure what a silver chest was, he understood the concept of a reward.

He gazed at the blue star pattern in the palm of his hand. As if sensing his thoughts, a stream of pale blue information gathered in his mind, forming a virtual screen.

Several lines of text appeared on the screen, providing supplementary instructions regarding the survival game:

【Players are advised to approach the game with caution; you only have one life.】

【A novice gift pack will be distributed during the beginner phase. It contains clean food and water; please explore carefully.】

Qiyu thought, This game is actually pretty good.

Not only does it revive him for free, heal him, and provide a safe haven, but it even offers clean food and water.

Now that the benefits have been covered, what about the downsides?

They went to all that trouble to save him—they must be after something, right?

As if reading his mind—or perhaps by mere coincidence—the next line of text gradually appeared on the screen.

【The Survival Game’s only requirement for players: Stay alive.】

【Danger is also an opportunity.】

【Please enter your Survival Game ID】.

After a moment of silence, Qiyu, filled with gratitude, solemnly typed the six words: 【I Love Survival Game】.

ID confirmed. No one else had claimed it—he felt even more grateful.

With the ID verification complete, it felt as though a necessary step had been taken. Soon, several new sections appeared on the screen.

The most prominent were the 【Personal Information】, 【Chat】, and 【Trading】 channels.

Personal Information:

Survival ID: I Love Survival Game

Age: 19

Shelter: Initial Wooden Cabin (Durability 100/100), upgradeable.

Next Level: Level One Shelter (Sturdy Cabin) Skills: None

Satiety: 20/100

Stamina: 50/100 (20 Satiety and 50 Stamina—this is quite rare)

Health: 60/100

Above the chat channel, there is a number: 01. The player count is displayed as 99999/100000.

At this moment, countless messages scroll across the screen like snowflakes, but perhaps due to a special ability granted by the survival game, Qiyu can still make out the text as it flashes by.

【May Money Come From All Directions: Where the heck am I? Is this even China?】

【Old Farmer: Holy crap, a survival game? Is the novel I read coming true? I get it, folks—let’s go all out while we’re still in the newbie phase!】

【Male God: I just finished renovating my new place and am planning to move in next month. What kind of shitty game is this? F*** you, you b****】

【Tranquility Yields Transcendence: There’s a wooden box in the corner of the wooden cabin—the “novice chest” the game mentioned. It contains steamed buns, water, and a wooden axe.】

【Endure For A Moment The More I Think About It The Angrier I Get: Isn’t this kidnapping? This is kidnapping! Holy shit, I’m going home! I’m going home!】

【The More I Involution The Bitterer My Life Becomes: Who the hell is “My Fate is Determined By Me, Not The Heavens”? Are you seriously a shill for this game?】

【Bitter Fated High School Senior Dog: Holy shit, my 800-degree myopia is gone! The world is so clear without glasses!】

【Civil Engineering Brother: Our group chat name is “01”—is that a regional designation? The first major region? How are these regions divided? Are we all from the Huaxia Federation? I’m from City S in the Southeast Region】

Qiyu quickly scanned the messages and soon realized a fact: he and these people weren’t from the same place. They must be the “Earth people” mentioned in the survival game, right?

The vast majority of posts were filled with panic, complaints, and pleas to go home.

Beyond that, there were plenty of complaints about the dilapidated wooden cabins and the terrible food.

A rough picture began to form in his mind: Earth was probably a beautiful, peaceful, and prosperous planet—free of viruses, zombies, and monsters.

He couldn’t imagine what it would be like.

For as long as he could remember, he had known nothing but the apocalypse, with humanity struggling to survive in a harsh and dangerous environment. So, unlike the other players’ discontent, he felt a secret sense of joy.

He had no idea what kind of glitch in this survival game had pulled him in as an Earth native.  He would cherish all of this.

The trading section was still empty.

Qiyu stood up and carefully circled the wooden cabin, but didn’t see the novice chest mentioned in the group chat. It seemed the chest’s spawn location wasn’t fixed.

He pushed the door open slightly.

The sight that met his eyes made him stare in wide-eyed astonishment.

It was a jungle.

Countless unrecognizable plants filled his field of vision, causing him to instinctively take a step back and slam the wooden door shut with a “bang.” After a moment, the pale-faced young man muttered to himself, “I forgot again.”

He had died and come back to life; he was no longer in that hellish place.

Here, plants were just plants, not monsters.

Besides, he was still in the safe beginner phase. Qiyu opened the door and stepped out of the cabin.

He approached a towering tree, his body tensing instinctively.

【Mature tree detected. Can be cut down.】

Qiyu reached out, grabbed a handful of tree leaves, and put them in his mouth.  They tasted slightly bitter, with little flavor.

It tastes pretty good.

He waited quietly for a while longer; his body showed no unusual reactions.

His eyes suddenly lit up as he scanned the vast forest, as if he had discovered countless treasures. E-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g here was edible!

He felt an urge to start plucking leaves right then and there. Fortunately, reason stopped him.

No rush—the trees are right here.

The top priority right now is to find the novice chest. And, very importantly, to upgrade the wooden cabin.

He remembered the survival game making it very clear: the shelter is absolutely safe during the newbie period, but after the three-day newbie period, that’s not necessarily the case. The novice chest wasn’t exactly hidden; after walking through a patch of harvestable trees, he spotted the wooden chest tucked away in the grass.

【Novice chest detected. Open?】

Qiyu silently willed it open in his mind, staring at the chest with anticipation.

As the lid opened, a faint white light emanated from inside the chest.

【Congratulations! You have obtained 6 steamed buns, 3 x 500ml bottles of drinking water, 1 wooden axe, 1 workbench crafting blueprint, 1 basic backpack blueprint, and 1 ordinary talent skill book.】

In addition to the physical items, there were two thin blueprints and a small, palm-sized booklet with a blue cover.

【Blueprint detected. Do you wish to study it?】 Qiyu chose to study it.

【Workbench: A structure for crafting all tools. Construction Materials: Wood x50, Stone x50】

【Basic Backpack: Grants 10 basic backpack slots. Not stackable. Construction Materials: Sisal Grass X30】

【Detected a disassemblable wooden crate. Do you wish to disassemble it?】

Qiyu looked at the box filled to the brim with water and steamed buns, swallowed hard, and chose “no.” He crouched down, wiped his hands on his clothes out of habit, and picked up a steamed bun.

It was unexpected, yet somehow not entirely surprising—this plump, white steamed bun was actually piping hot, as if it had just come out of the steamer a moment ago. He took a bite.

It felt as though even his soul let out a sigh of relief in that moment.

Qiyu devoured half a steamed bun in the blink of an eye, took two sips of water, then carefully placed them back in the wooden box and gently closed the lid.

Half a steamed bun raised his fullness to 50, his stamina to 90, and fully restored his health.  He picked up the little blue booklet.

A talent skill book?

Could it be what he was thinking?

Immediately upon waking, he had checked his body. Although he had recovered to an astonishingly healthy state, his supernatural abilities had vanished. He had consoled himself: if this was the price to pay for being reborn into a wonderful world, it wasn’t entirely unacceptable.

Now it seemed there might still be a glimmer of hope?

【Ordinary Talent Skill Book detected. Do you wish to learn it?】

“Learn.”
